Girl soldiers
Mostly young boys between the ages of 14 and 18 are used for battle while young girls are used by soldiers for sexual purposes. Young girls are told to be "available" for soldiers usage at any time. They cook and clean for the other (older) soldiers. Girls go much more unnoticed than the boy soldiers. When people hear the words, "child soldiers" hardly anyone thinks of the young girls before they think of the boys. It is important that we don't let these girls go unseen becuase they go through just as much hardship as the boys. Girls under the age of 18 are often seen battling with babies strapped to their backs. These babies are a result of the rape by other men.
-Girls make up almost half of the 300,00 children involved in wars, according to a report which says they are abducted, raped and often used as currency among fighters. (Sengupta, 2005)
- In the violent, desperate world of child soldiers, they are the most vulnerable, subjected to the worst abuse and have little chance of returning to something resembling normal life.
- They are far more out of the reach of the intenational agencies than boy soldiers under 18, and are wary of joining rehabilitation schemes because of fear that it will expose what has hapened to them and lead to further shunning by their home communities.
